Top 20 Entrepreneurial Tips

I met this very successful Meat Processing Guru of the Philippines, Mrs. Lourdes Rivera in one of the Culinary training I attended in Rockwell, Makati Philippines. She's very business minded and in fact she doesn't stop encouraging the participants to go on and start a home based business without sacrificing one's current job. And because of so much admiration to her I tried to have some chit-chat with her and ask her some questions, I remember I asked her "any tips for a beginner like me in this kind of battlefield (food business)?"

"Just prepare the food as if you are preparing for yourself and for your family." she replied.

At first i could not really digest what she said, but later on, i realized that yes, preparing food for the family is very special, you have to make sure that its safe, clean and of course taste good. Then this is the secret? Yes, it is!!!

She also mentioned some pointers and tips that later on I realized she had a book and its all written there... let me share that to you.

Here are the 20 entrepreneurial tips for prospective entrepreneurs according to Lourdes Rivera:

  1. Be Goal Oriented. Strive had to attain your objectives. Pursue your goal even in the face of adversity and hostile circumstances. Be persistent.
  2. Work with vigor and vitality no matter how tedious the work is. Remember that health is a very important component in operating a business. Consider good nutrition as a basic requirement for good health and vitality.
  3. Be Achievement Oriented. Be interested not oly in the results but also in the process of attaining it well. Excellence should be your standard. Take to heart Thomas Edison's advise: "Today's preparation determines tomorrow's achievement".
  4. Be a Risk Taker. Be open-minded and consider constraints as challenges. Business is not always a successful endeavor. Always experiment to reach possitive results.
  5. Knowledge is Power. Be familiar with the ins and outs of your business. Master its technicalities and update yourself on the latest trends. With mind power, man can change his life. Try to desire differently tp attain success in life.
  6. Be Innovative. In meat processing for instance, think of better ways of doing things in terms of material, ingridients, and packaging.
  7. Develop the Ability to Persuade. Learn how to motivate and influence others. Touch people's lives and inspire them.
  8. Have Self-reliance, confidence, faith and the desire to win. Remember that many friends and contacts are just support material.
  9. Be Responsible. You should assume responsibility for the job that you are doing. Do not believe in luck or fate. Responsibility is not only for yourself but also to your clients, specifically, to the people working for you. Also remember your moral responsibility towards them.
  10. Listen to Feedback and View Things objectively. Feedback serves as bases for improvement of your products, particularly taste, color and costs.
  11. Be a Good Leader. Develop your ability to manage people, time, money, machine and resources. All these must be enhanced by good communication skills.
  12. Be Willing to Undergo Various Training (Technical and Managerial). This is a way to upgrade not only your product but also yourself.
  13. Always Seek Opportunities. Observe, look around for business prospects. Business opportunities come at the right time, in the right place, to the right people and the right price.
  14. Be Fast in Making Concepts and Implement them Soonest. Good and quick concepts with testing of products will easily increase your product line. However, concepts should be relevant to your target market.

About Me

My photo
I have often been accused of being a PLAYER. Amidst my adamant denial, I have allowed this reputation to pervade. There is some truth to this, but only because I have become adept at the games people play. I'm pretty competitive, but in all honesty I really don't like winning.
